Japanese dried floral design begins with the careful preparation of each material.

I am a florist based in Japan.

The most important part of my creative process is the careful preparation of each floral material.

By understanding and preparing every material with care, you can create a wide range of designs—from soft, natural arrangements that preserve the character of the plants to expressive, artistic pieces.

In this course, you will learn more than how to copy the shape of a finished wreath.

I will guide you through the essential foundations of the creative process, including how to handle and prepare the materials, create and adapt wreath bases, combine different materials, and assemble your own designs.

ABOUT THIS COURSE

In this foundation course, you will learn how to use floral wire and floral tape, prepare different types of dried floral materials, create and adapt wreath bases, and combine materials effectively.

Using the materials you have prepared, you will create two finished pieces: one half wreath and one full wreath.

The aim of this course is not simply to reproduce the sample designs.

By the end of the course, you will have the foundational skills to select, prepare, and combine locally available materials and begin creating your own original wreaths.

CHAPTER 1｜Introduction and Essential Tools

・Course purpose and study process
・Essential tools and materials

CHAPTER 2｜Preparing Floral Materials

・Types, thicknesses, and strengths of floral wire
・How to select the correct wire for each material
・How to use floral tape correctly
・Basic wiring using locally available leaves
・How to combine small branches and multiple leaves
・How to reinforce flowers, berries, and fragile materials
・How to adjust the length, direction, and size of each component
・Common preparation mistakes and how to correct them

CHAPTER 3｜Creating and Adapting Wreath Bases

・Types of wreath bases and how to select them
・Creating a base with wire, newspaper, and floral tape
・Reshaping and adapting a commercial wreath base
・Creating flexible bases with chicken wire
・Strength, balance, weight distribution, and hanging methods

CHAPTER 4｜Combining Materials and Planning a Design

・The roles of focal, supporting, connecting, and movement materials
・Combining colour, shape, and texture
・Creating movement, height, and depth
・Using negative space in Japanese-style wreath design
・Selecting suitable locally available alternatives
・Planning your design before construction

CHAPTER 5｜Creating a Half Wreath

・Calculating the required materials and number of components
・Direction and layering of materials
・Creating height and depth
・Balance and weight distribution
・Showing the base and creating negative space
・Finishing and hanging the completed wreath

CHAPTER 6｜Creating a Full Wreath

・Calculating the materials required for a complete wreath
・Layering materials consistently in one direction

・Refining the inner and outer outlines
・Creating a natural connection between the beginning and end
・Final adjustments while the wreath is hanging

PROJECTS

・One half wreath
・One full wreath

You do not need to use exactly the same flowers and materials shown in the lessons.

You will create your wreaths using materials that are available in your own country or region.

MATERIALS ARE NOT INCLUDED

Flowers, wreath bases, floral wire, floral tape, and other materials required for the projects are not included in the course fee.

Students will source the necessary materials in their own country or region.

If the exact materials shown in the lessons are unavailable, I will guide you in selecting suitable local alternatives based on their colour, shape, texture, and purpose.

COURSE AND SUPPORT PERIOD

Question support and personal feedback are available for three months from the date your course access information is sent by email.

During this period, you may send photographs of your work in progress and your completed pieces.

I will review your photographs and provide personal advice on the construction, balance, and design of your wreaths.

CANCELLATION AND REFUNDS

If you request cancellation before the video links, course page, lessons, or digital materials have been provided, your course fee will be refunded.

The course will be considered to have started once access to any video link, course page, lesson, guide, or digital material has been provided.
